Traffic & Transportation Management

30 October 2004

The traffic and transportation issues surrounding a planned special event will depend on the audience size and market area; event site, time, and duration; and the type and scope of the event. The most common issues include modes of travel, traffic congestion, road capacity, routes, non-patron impacts, and traffic and pedestrian safety.

A Traffic Management Plan* should be developed in cooperation with the appropriate transportation, law enforcement, and public safety agency stakeholders and should address:

  • Site access and parking

  • Pedestrian access

  • Traffic flow

  • Traffic control

  • En-route traveler information

  • Traffic surveillance

  • Traffic incident management and safety
